Kasargod, September 17: In connection to the burglary that took place in Kudlu Service Cooperative Bank at Eriyal, the Kasargod police arrested prime accused, from Karwar in Uttara Kannada district of Karnataka on Thursday September 17th.
The arrested is identified as Shariff (41), a resident of Pachambala, Bandiyod.
He was brought to Kasargod the same day and produced before the media. He is said to be the mastermind behind the robbery.
SP Srinivas, addressed a press meet here on Thursday, September 17th, and informed that about 10 kg of stolen gold has been recovered by the police.
Accused Sharif had hidden the stolen gold under a coconut tree near his house at Pachambala from where it was recovered. The gold was found in 416 packets, as stored in the bank, and kept inside bags.
The police had earlier arrested Mahshook (25) from Bengaluru and Shabbir (42) from Goa.
Three others are absconding who were also involved in the crime. The remaining gold and cash may be recovered after their arrest, informed the SP.
SP Srinivas further said that Shariff, in order to escape from the hands of police had left to Mangaluru and then to Kochi, from where he flew to Mumbai two days ago. Later he went to Karwar, from where he was arrested on Thursday morning. Police seized Shariff’s passport after the arrest.
Police are on a look out for the other accused.
