Mangaluru, September 16: Students from various colleges under the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) staged a protest in front of the DC’s office here on Wednesday September 16th urging to drop the ongoing Yettinahole Drinking Water Project.
The students went on a protest rally from Jyothi circle to DC’s office prior to the protest meet.
K Ramesh, ABVP state secretary addressing the protesters said, a meeting should have been convened with the DK district and also the government should have asked for the consent of publics prior to finalizing the project. The people’s money is going to be wasted as new report says that there is only 9 TMC of water available. The materials arrived at the project spot will be of no use. Alternatives should be found by the government to address the water problems faced in north Karnataka districts. ABVP is not against providing water to other districts, he said.
ABVP vice-president Suhan said, the government’s decision to execute Yettinahole project will create a huge water crisis in the district. The people from villages and students are protesting against the project, but the people of the city are not worried. ABVP strongly condemns the statement given by Congress leader M Veerappa Moily in support of the project. ABVP will intensify the protest until the demands are met, he said.
In the protest, students in large numbers from various colleges had participated.
