Trio notorious thieves arrested: Items valued Rs 4.55 lakhs confiscated.

Mangaluru, September 16: Pandeshwar police cracked theft cases that took place in various places in the city and arrested three men from Central Railway station.

The arrested are identified as Kiran (22) from Haveri, Sandeep (23) from Bajpe Porkody, and Ashok Kumar (28) from Tamil Nadu.

The police cracked total of 11 theft cases that were registered at Mangaluru South police station, Suratkal police station, Mangaluru East police station, rural police station and five police stations in Hassan district and recovered jewellery worth 128 grams, 10 copper containers, five bells, 20 brass lamps and two laptops total valued at Rs 4.55 lakhs.

The police said that among the accsued, Kiran and Ashok Kumar used to wander at various places and were involved in thefts. They had come into contact with Sandeep in Mangaluru a few years ago. Later the trio, used to roam around different places in the guise of rag-pickers and note houses where families had gone away and also the temples in secluded areas. At night, they used to burgle houses and temples and steal gold ornaments and other items, informed the police.

Theft cases are registered against Kiran and Sandeep in Bunder police station here. Theft case against Ashok Kumar has been registered in Pandeshwar station. After committing the theft the accused used to flee to another place. Kiran’s elder brothers, Ashok and Kumar also face a number of theft cases, and Kumar is currently in jail, informed the police.

The arrest operation was carried out under the guidance of city police commissioner, S Murugan, deputy police commissioners, K M Shantaraj and Dr Sanjeeva M Patil, and assistant police commissioner, R R Kalyan Shetty; Mangaluru South police Inspector Dinakar Shetty arrested the three thieves and recovered the stolen items. In this operation, Pandeshwar Station PSI Mohammed Sharif, Crime Detection Branch Sub- Inspector Anantha Murdeshwar and staffs had participated.
