Mangalore, Sep. 03: Sevanjali Charitable Trust with its office at Jodu Math Street here, working for the upliftment of economically backward families and helping students to get educated and unemployed to become self-employed. In tune with its tradition of honouring an eminent personality every year, the Trust has chosen to felicitate Padmashree Purushotham Mallya, Padmashree Awardee and Konkani Bhasha Sevak from Cochin , N Purushothama Mallaya, the only Keralite among the 75 honorees named for the Padma Shri awardsNoted Konkani writer, historian and activist, Purushottam Mallya who has been chosen by it as the man of the year.
A press note from the Trust has said that Mallya has been chosen by it as the man of the year, because of his outstanding contribution to the society. Padmashree Purushotham Mallya, Padmashree Awardee and Konkani Bhasha Sevak from Cochin will be honoured at a function to be held at a function to be organized on the evening of Saturday September 12, at Lord Shree Venkataramana Temple, Car Street.
At the function, prior to the felicitation programme, Charitable trust, functioning as a wing of Lord Venkataramana temple here, which has been doing lot of activities in the field of education, health care etc., has undertaken distribution of Monthly pension Rs3 Lacs every year as one of its major initiatives since the last five years. At present, the trust has covered about 50 people from Mangalore & distributed Rs. 500 per month for each , being run in association with Chethana School every year trust is conducting Blood Donation Camp , During the last year, more than 500 donors donated blood. availed of health care & Education benefits amounting to about Rs 10 lac through various hospitals & Collages .
Trustees of Lord Venkataramana temple will participate as guests. After the function, Satyanarayana Pooja will be performed, followed by distribution of Prasadam and dinner.
The Trust has also informed, that bus services have been specially arranged for the public attending the function, to places like Mannagudda, Urwa, Kodical, Bondel,Konchady, Attavar and Jeppu after the conclusion of the programme.
