Mangaluru, September 1: KPT Students under the banner of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishat (ABVP) protested against the government urging to resolve various education related problems on Tuesday September 1st, at Basaveshwara circle, close to Karnataka Polytechnic (KPT) here.

Addressing the protesting students, ABVP leader Chaithra said, ABVP condemns the stand of the state government for its careless attitude in providing scholarships for SC/ST students and basic facilities in hostels and Government College’s. Quality of education is declining. Student’s education is getting spoilt due to shortcomings in the system in the state, she said.

Since two years, the SC/ST students have not received scholarships. Lakhs of students are quitting their education due to delay in the execution of reduced fee structure for the college students from backward classes, SC/ST and minority sectors. Government has completely failed in providing better hostel facilities for students from backward class. Gradually private colleges are turning into business centres because government colleges lack basic facilities.

Special grants should be released for the development of hostels. Also the number of hostels should be increased. Government colleges face shortage of lecturers and this issue also has to be resolved at the earliest, she said.

She warned that in future, a massive state-wide protest would be held.
