Mangaluru, August 14: Snehalaya ‘Manna’ programme by Snehalaya Charitable Trust was inaugurated by Health and family welfare minister U T Khader on Friday August 14th at government Wenlock Hospital here.
This program aims at providing mid-day meals on a daily basis to around 700 poor people at government hospitals in the city.
On this occasion, two Tata Ace vehicles, each donated for the noble cause by MLA J R Lobo and family and MD of Sultan Gold Abdul Rauf, were unveiled.
Addressing the gathering, U T Khader lauded Joseph Crasta- the founder of Snehalaya and said, this noble work is a contribution to the nation. It is not sufficient if speeches are delivered on roads, true patriotism lies in helping the poor. The work done by NGOs and social service organizations remains permanent, he said.
He also informed that soon, all district hospitals in the state will be provided accommodation and libraries for attendants of patients.
Fr Victor Machado of Cordel Church, Kulshekar who presided over the programme said, this is a unique programme. We should take small steps for good work and implement it effectively. Cordel Church we will also extend help in this noble cause.
Mayor Jacintha Alfred also lauded Joseph Crasta and said, Joseph Crasta always thinks about how to help and uplift the poor and needy. She wished all success to this programme.
Abul Rauf Puthige of Talent Research Foundation also spoke on this occasion.
The gathering was welcomed by Joseph Crasta.
Dignitaries also served food to the patients.
On this occasion, MLA J R Lobo, Elias Fernandes, Yogish Shetty Jeppu, and others were present.
