Jalligudde water problem: Residents protest in front of MCC.

Mangaluru, July 24: The residents of Jalligudde who are facing acute water problem protested in front of the Mangaluru City Corporation here on Friday, July 24th.

During the protest when the protesters attempted to seize the MCC office, Mayor Jacintha Vijay Alfred pacified the protesters and said this problem arouse due to technical problems in Tumbe. She assured that the water problem will be resolved at the earliest.

The media had recently published the issue of water scarcity in Jalligudde.

The mayor explained that a problem at Thumbe dam and led to the crisis. As the transformer at Thumbe dam had spoilt and after it was repaired, the pump stopped working. There have been some electricity problems and we are repairing spare pumps so that such problems do not repeat. Last time, some of the machines were washed off during construction of Thumbe dam. All necessary measures will be taken so that there will not be any problem.

The mayor said, as temporary measure, water tankers are being sent. But, one of the residents said that only once in three days the water tanker arrives and does not reach everyone. Mayor also promised to visit their area by evening and resolve the issue.

MCC superintendent engineer Kantharaj said, there was a blockage in the pipe which passes though Padil railway track. The pipe will be removed and replaced, by this evening the problem will be solved.
