Mangaluru, July 24: Restricted only for the usage of Dakshina Kannada District, the district sand in-charge committee has permitted the sand extraction.
It was decided in a meeting chaired by the Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner A B Ibrahim. Considering the protests by the public’s against the sand extraction and the construction works stalled in the district due to scarcity of sand, directions were passed and the sand extracted until August 31st ought to be used only in the district and inter-district sand transportation been banned.
Sand has to be extracted manually. On holidays, sand should be extracted. On other days, sand is supposed to be extracted between 9am to 5pm in the evening. Ten permits can be given to each acre, was the decisions taken in the meeting.
