Mangaluru, July 9: The Kankanady private bus terminus has now turned into a mess, which was opened a few years ago to reduce the congestion at the Hampankatta-State Bank bus terminus.
The private city buses and service buses arriving from B C Road, Mudipu, Innoli, Pavuru- Hareakla, Manjanady, Kinya, Talapady and other areas stop here. Due to improper system, the bus commuters as well as the staffs face a lot of problems.
In the bus stand there are no information boards regarding on where and which bus has to be parked. The buses stop at the places of their choice.
No toilets:
Although many buses and passengers arrive daily at the bus terminus, there are no toilets there. Hence the public’s as well as the bus staffs suffer due to lack of toilets. As the bus staffs park the buses close to the spot where the public’s piss in open space, the entire vicinity stinks badly. It has turned as a hub for the communicative diseases.
A year ago, toilet was constructed near the bus stop. As it was not connected to the drainage system, this toilet has remained inaccessible to the public’s. Kankanady junction is a crowded place where there is a heavy traffic flow. Flower, meat, and vegetable markets are here and cars as well as the autos park in this place.
There are a lot of commercial complexes here. Publics who move to Father Muller’s, High Land, Unity, Indira, and Athena hospitals, Valencia, Mangaladevi, Morgan’s Gate areas pas through this place.
‘Namma Mangaluru Swachha Mangaluru’ vehicle is also parked here. The garbage collecting vehicles are usually parked here has also paved way for problems.
The bus stop is adjacent to Kankanady-Valencia road. The toilet is situated in one end of this bus stop. While its construction was going on, the interlocks laid for the bus stop had come out resulting in potholes. The advertisements of the private educational institutions are erected in this place. It is sad that, the MCC which has taken interest to erect advertisement boards, has failed to respond to the grievances of publics.
Although the Kankanady bus stand is a mess, the auto drivers association here has made arrangements for sufficient drinking water. The Kankanady bus stand which is under development is waiting for the betterment works.
The people’s representatives, and concerned authorities have to take interest to rescue the public’s from foul smell.
