’Male Habba’ will be organized at Pilikula on June 14th.

Mangaluru, June 3: Rain fest ’Pilikula Male Habba’ will be jointly organized by the District administration and Pilikula Dr Shivaram Karanth Nisargadhama at Urban Haat in Pilikula Nisargadhama on Sunday, June 14th.

DC AB Ibrahim chairing a preparatory meet on Tuesday, June 2nd, at his office informed about this event and said the fest will feature exhibition and sale of agricultural equipment, vermin-compost, bio­-fertilisers etc by the department of agriculture. The materials used to take protection from rain, such as satra, korambu, panoli, muttale and agriculture related materials kalase, plough etc will also be displayed.

An organic market will be organized in association with Savayava Samuha comprising of traditional delicacies of rainy season such as jackfruit happala, mango mandra etc.

Exhibition cum sale of coconut products, cashew, pepper, seeds of various fruit and flower bearing plants will also be held. The forest department will also open a stall for the sale of saplings, said the DC.

An umbrella decorating competition will be held as part of ’Male Habba’. The first, second and third prize winners will get cash prize of Rs 5,000, Rs 3,000 and Rs 2000 respectively, he said.

Traditional indoor and outdoor sports of rainy season such as chenne mane, kunto bille will be conducted. A quiz competition will also be held. Planting plant species of Western Ghats , in Pilikula, will be held in association with Panambur beach development committee, said the DC.

Demonstration on rain water harvest will be held during the event. Food counters serving local varieties of food will be opened at the fest. Variety cultural programmes such as hulivesha, chende, magic show and talamaddale will be held, informed DC Ibrahim.

Additional DC Sadashiv Prabhu, Pilikula Dr Shivaram Karanth Nisargadhama Executive Director S A Prabhakar Sharma, Pilikula Nisargadhama Governing council member Subbaiah Shetty, president of Kannada Sahitya Parishat district unit Pradeep Kumar Kalkura were present on this occassion.
