Illegal quarries raided by officials – vehicles, equipment seized.

Mangaluru, June 3: The mines and geology department officials on Tuesday June 2nd have once again conducted a raid on illegal quarries in Arasule Padavu near Yekkar village coming under Bajpe police station jurisdiction.

About a thousand acres of government land is in Arasulepadavu. Laterite stone quarries have been operational in both government and private land here violating the norms.

So far, for about six times these quarries have been raided and over ten lakh rupees have been levied as fine.

During the raid operation on Tuesday, June 2nd; the officials have seized five Lorries loaded with stones, six cutting machines, and other equipment from the spot.

Several locals had complained in the past to the deputy commissioner of Dakshina Kannada district about these illegal quarries. Directed by the deputy commissioner of the district, a team led by tahsildar had inspected the spot.

Even though the raid was conducted several times, the quarries continue to function later. The issue was even raised at the general session of the zilla panchayat.

The raiding team comprised of deputy director, Ramappa, and Nagendrappa, an official.
