Former police officer B J Bhandary expires in a road accident.

Mangaluru, June 2: A former police officer has breathed his last in an accident at Brahmavar on Monday, June 1st.

Retired deputy superintendent of police (DySP) Beltangady Jaya Bhandary (66) is the deceased.

Jaya Bhandary had been to Brahmavar to participate in a relatives wedding. While he was crossing the road along with his relative near Mahesh Hospital in Brahmavar, a car knocked him down, it is learnt.

Jaya Bhandary was seriously injured in the accident. He was immediately taken to Mahesh hospital and later shifted to KMC hospital in Manipal for advanced treatment. As he failed to respond to the treatments, he breathed his last, it is gathered.

It is learnt that, at the time of accident, the car responsible for the accident was moving from Udupi to Kundapur. Police have arrested the driver of the car Abdul Rahim. A case has been registered at Brahmavar Police station.

Retired police officer’s union:

Jaya Bhandary had recently formed an association of retired police officers. He had also led various protests in demand for various facilities for the retired police.

Achievements:

B J Bhandary who hails from Belthangady Taluk joined the police department in 1979.  Bhandary has served as ACP in Mangalore apart from serving in Mandya, Bangalore, Chickmagalur, DCRE, CCB,  state Intelligence and Lokayukta department and as DySP in DCRB.

He is the recipient of Chief Minister’s medal twice in 1991 and 2007.  He is also the recipient of President’s medal.
