Puttur, May 18: In a serial accident between two Eicher tempos and a bus at Mukrampady here on Monday May 18th, five persons were seriously injured. Traffic on Sullia-Puttur highway was affected for more than an hour following the accident.
It is learnt that the driver of the bus moving from Puttur to Pallathur applied sudden brakes at Mukrampady. An Eicher tempo loaded with scrap which was moving behind the bus just missed colliding to it. But, another tempo loaded with gravel stones, which was behind the other tempo, dashed to it. As a result, the first tempo collided to the bus.
Locals said, the tempo laden with stones was moving at a high speed. Though the bus was not damaged much, the front portions of both the tempos were badly mangled.
Five persons in the two tempos got trapped inside. A JCB had to be used to rescue them. The three vehicles were cleared using JCB.
All five who were seriously injured were admitted to a private hospital. Their identities are yet to be established.
Local auto rickshaw drivers helped to rescue the injured. It is sad that many of the locals were busy clicking photos of the accident instead of helping the injured, said the auto drivers.
