Mangaluru, May 14: The leaders of Communist Party of India along with the activists protested against the land ordinance of the NDA government in front of the DC office here on Thursday, May 14th.
The protesters went on a protest march from town hall and staged a Jail Bharo protest in front of the DC office. The police arrested them later.
District unit secretary of CPI, V Kukian addressing the protesters said the land ordinance is against the interests of the farmers and demanded the government to withdraw the ordinance as soon as possible. He said the land ordinance passed by the UPA government in 2013 was in the interests of the farmers, but now with many amendments brought about to the former bill, the ordinance has become anti-farmer, he said.
Former corporator from CPI, BK Krishanppa said, the NDA government is ready to pass the ordinance which is anti-farmer. If the farmer’s lands are acquired by the corporates, where will the farmers go? What will they do?
