Mangaluru, May 1: In the 19th Federation Cup Senior Athletics Championship held in Mangala Stadium here, the first gold medal in 5000 metres track event was bagged by G Laxman(Army) in 13:54:40 time duration. Gopi won the silver and Suresh Kumar (ONGC) won the bronze.
These two events were held early in the morning on Friday.
In the women’s 5000 metres race, Suriya L won the gold in 16.55.90 duration, while P V Chitra from Kerala bagged the silver and the bronze was won by Paarithi Laamba of Haryana.
Both the Gold medallists Laxmanan and Suriya are from Tamil Nadu.
The first day’s medals will be presented by Karnataka Athletics Association president G Parameshwar later in the afternoon.
Apart from 5000 m race, qualifying rounds for other events were also held.
