Mangaluru, May 1: The locals who were furious over the fact that the CCTV cameras installed at Anjuman Mallagul Falah Madrasa building at Subhash Nagar here have been pointed at the residential area located behind this building, a protest was held on the evening of Thursday April 30th.
A tense situation had prevailed in the area after the protestors demanded the removal of these CCTV cameras.
Four CCTV cameras were installed in the said Madrasa building on Thursday evening. The said building has been built in the residential area of Subhashnagar. Two among these CCTV cameras face the residential area located behind the building.
Many houses belonging to both Hindus and Muslims are built behind this area, and these CCTVs are placed in such a manner that they capture activities happening around toilets of these residences. The locals alleged that these CCTV cameras disturb the privacy of the residents of this area, and also women and girls in particular, as these cameras are able to record whatever that happens in and around their houses.
Assistant superintendent of police, Kalyani Shetty, Ullal station inspector, Pavitra Teja, and Ullal police sub-inspector, Bharati, visited the spot and held talks with the protesters.
When the police said that no steps could be taken immediately, as the clerics were not present at the time, the locals demanded immediate removal of these cameras. Police informed the crowd that they had inspected the CCTV cameras and that the cameras have been placed in such a way that they do not interfere with the privacy of publics.
When the protesters were not happy with this, Ullal station inspector told them that the police have blocked power supply to these CCTV cameras. HE assured them of officially instructing the Madrasa office bearers on Friday morning to remove these CCTV cameras.
In order to avoid untoward incidents from taking place, Police from Ullal station and Karnataka State Reserve Police have been deployed in the area.
