Mangaluru, March 18: Renowned Tulu dramatist, director and actor K N Tailor (76) has expired in a hospital in Mangaluru on Wednesday March 18th.
K N Tailor was ill since sometime and had been admitted to Vinaya Nursing Home where he expired at around 8.45 am on Wednesday.
K N Tailor who was renowned as the first Superstar of Tulu cinema and Tulu industry has acted, directed and produced 9 films and brought a new dimension to Tulu drama and cinema. Even during days when basic amities were unavailable, K N Tailor was capable to draw huge crowds.
K N Tailor was honoured with Rajyotsava Award in 1994, Nataka Academy Award in 1989, Karnataka Sahitya Academy Award in 1998, Sandesha Award in 2000 and many other honours were also presented to him in recognition of his immense contribution to Tulu cinema and drama.
“Lifetime Achievement Award” was felicitated to him during the first Tulu Film Awards in November 2014, and at Tulu Cinemotsava Awards in January 2015.
Some of the renowned plays by K N Tailor are ‘Bombayi Kandane’, ‘Pudar Kenade’, ‘Dr Shankar’, ‘Thammale Aruvattana Kola’, ‘Yer Malthini Thappu’, ‘Shanthi’, ‘Kallda Dever’, ‘Yaan Sanyasi Aape’, ‘Kaasdaye Kandane’, ‘Badayida Bangar’, ‘Kandane Budedi’, ‘Indrana Aasti’, ‘Kaljigada Vishwamitra Menake’, ‘Yerenla Nambodchi’, ‘Dever Korper’, ‘Sainagandala Sathya Panle’, ‘Dasuna Madme’. He was the founder of the Ganesh Nataka Sabha in 1958 which emerged as a leading Tulu drama troupe.
K N Tailor had released 9 movies, namely ”Kaasdaye Kandane”, ‘Yer Mathini Thappu’,‘Daareda Budedi’, ‘Pagetha Pugge’, ‘Bisathi Babu’, ‘Yaan Sanyasi Aape’, ‘Tulunada Siri’, ‘Savirodorthi Savitri’, ‘Bhagyavantedi Tailor’.
