Mangaluru, March 12: Officers of Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) Mangaluru, acting on credible information, and assisted by customs department at Mangalore International Airport, have seized a huge quantity of foreign currency notes of different countries Wednesday night, March 11th from a Jeddah-bound passenger and arrested him.
The foreign currency notes were seized from a passenger identified as Kamar Mohamed Moula Kadira, aged about 35 years, a resident of Manki, Honnavar.
The foreign currency seized include US dollars, more than 50,000 Saudi riyals, assorted foreign currencies like British pounds, Qatar riyals, Oman riyals, Bahrain dinars, and Kuwait dinars. The total value of the currency seized is Rs 54,74,754.
On the night of March 11th, Kamar was to travel to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia via Dubai (UAE) by Air India Flight IX 813.
Kamar has admitted to the offence during interrogation, post which he was arrested and produced in the court.
Further investigation is underway.
