‘Athletics Federation Cup-2015’ national level sports scheduled to be held in Mangaluru.

Mangaluru, February 23: For the first time, Mangaluru will be hosting the national sports event ‘Athletics Federation Cup-2015’.

The sports event will be held in Dakshina Kannada from May 1st to May 4th at Mangala Stadium in the city, informed Dr Parameshwar, president of Karnataka state Athletics Federation and Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president.

Addressing the first preparatory meeting met at hotel Ocean Pearl in the city on Sunday February 22nd, President of Athletics Federation of India – Adil J Sumariwalla briefed and said, Athletes will be competing in this event to qualify for the Asian Athletic Championship which will be held on June 3rd, 2015 in Hunan and world championship to be held in Beijing.

He said, discussions were held with representatives and the administration on providing the best facilities to athletes involving various departments and the administration and representatives have assured of hosting the event successfully in the city. Crew of experts will be visiting the city in 15 days, for general and technical inspection. Athletes for various competitions will be given the top most priority. Top class amenities will be provided. Visiting inspection teams will discuss with various departments about all the facilities. The events will be held in late evenings. 47 athletic events will be held with approximately 700 athletes from different states competing in the events and boards like Railways, ONGC and LIC will also participate.

Abhaychandra Jain, State minister for sports said, the department for sports along with the state government is prepared for this event. The ministry has ordered to commence the works of making suitable grounds and tracks for the event.

Dr Parameshwar informed that budget will be finalized within ten days and handed over to the sports minister.
