Virat Hindu Samajotsava scheduled on March 1st – Citizens urged to maintain peace and harmony in the district.

Mangaluru, February 19: District in-charge minister Ramanath Rai addressed a press meet along with police commissioner S Murugan on Wednesday February 18th to provide information about the security measures undertaken during the upcoming Virat Hindu Samajotsava which will be held at Nehru Maidan on March 1st as part of VHP’s golden jubilee celebrations.

Police commissioner S Murugan has made a special request to the media persons to highlight the following message to the citizens: “All citizens are requested to maintain peace and harmony in the district, and also during the Samajotsava and cooperate with the police.”

Rai, chairing a press meet at the police commissioner’s office here has also warned that stringent actions would be initiated on those who disrupt peace.

He said, we all are aware of the incidents that happened post the Samajotsava programme held at Puttur some time ago. We do not want it to recur once again. This time the cops have initiated appropriate measures to prevent untoward incidents during and after the Samajotsava.

Appropriate measures will be taken to ensure peaceful celebration of Samajotsava. Discussions have been held already on various issues related to the security measures. Adequate Police will be deployed during the Samajotsava and CCTV cameras will be installed. There will be strict vigilance all over especially in sensitive areas, where patrolling will be stepped up, he said.

Provocative posters will not be allowed and provocative speech during the Samajotsava will not be tolerated. The deadline set for the conclusion of the event is 5 pm.

He also informed that, guidelines have been given to the organizers and the list of speakers during the convention has been obtained. Peace meets with leaders of different communities will be held on February 27th and 28th, he said.

Police commissioner S Murugan said, additional police force would be deployed one day prior to the event, on the day of the event and at all important points.

Murugan also said that, a meeting was called with the organizers they have been informed that the entire responsibility will be on them in case any untoward incidents occur. The speakers at the convention are also not to be provocative. In case of any violation, strict action will be taken as per law.

During the press meet, Deputy Commissioner A B Ibrahim and SP Dr SD Sharanappa were present.
