Mangaluru, February 7: In a case related to harassment of a woman employee at workplace, the third judicial magistrate (first class) court here has proclaimed two and half years of simple imprisonment to three men and also slapped each with a penalty of Rs 10,000.
Loy D’Souza (30), Manager of the concerned shop, and employees, Puneeth Shettigar and Ashok Crasta, were found guilty of charges levelled against them.
A 24-year-old female complainant working in a shop near Milagres Centre in the city, had accused manager of the shop, Loy D’Souza from Bajal, Puneeth Shettigar from Yeyyady, and Ashjok Crasta from Talapady, of harassing her and mentally upsetting her by passing derogatory remarks at her on an ongoing basis.
Based on the complaint filed in the women’s police station here; police circle inspector, Kalavathi, investigated the matter and had filed charge sheet.
Undi Manjula Shivappa, Judge of the court, after the hearings in the case, imposed the above sentences and slapped fine under section 354, 506, and 509 of Indian Penal Code.
A sum of Rs 6,000 has been ordered to be disbursed to the aggrieved woman from the collected fine.
The case was prosecuted by Mohan Kumar B, assistant public prosecutor.
