Mangaluru, Feburary 6: The petrol rates have already fallen down, as decided by the transport authority the minimum fares of autorickshaw have to be brought down to Rs 20 otherwise we will hold a protest on this. Moreover if new permit is provided, arrangements would be made to run the rickshaw at Rs 15 as minimum charges said the Forum for justice association.

Addressing a press meet on Thursday, Dayanand Kotian; the working president of the association said if the rickshaw associations do not budge to reduce the fares, the district administration should take appropriate actions with police protection, he said.

He said, to create awareness among the general public’s to pay Rs 20 as minimum fares and to support the deputy commissioners we have begun a SMS movement.

Dayanand added further, by granting new permits, a chance should be given to the persons from poor financial background who are ready to run autos for Rs 15. Many have already come forward to run autos for Rs 15, he said.

From the past few months, the petroleum prices have reduced to about Rs 16 per litre. Again it has reduced by Rs 2.42. He urged the government to initiate appropriate legal actions on the rickshaw drivers and owners who deny reducing the rickshaw fares.

He said, it is ridiculous that the district in-charge minister is supporting the rickshaw associations instead of supporting the district administration which has decided to implement the reduced minimum auto fares. The autorickshaw operators have to consent within a week to the implement the minimum fares of Rs 20. Otherwise, protest will be organized even in front of the house of the district MLA’s warned Dayanand.

He has urged that, the ward committee should be formed immediately for the supervision of the waste management, road works and other works.
