Beltangady, February 5: Two youngsters lost their lives after their motor bike in which they were travelling fell into a pond and drowned near Odeelu in Maddadka in Beltangady taluk. The incident occurred at around 11 pm on Tuesday, February 3rd.
The duos are identified as Vishwanath alias Sundar Naik (26), son of Dogu Naik from Bendelpadavu House in Thenka Yedapadavu near Moodbidri, and Madhusudan (24), son of Koosappa Naik from Murattakody House in Uruvalu village.
It is said, that the duos were either returning from or either going to attend the annual car festival of Mahalingeshwara Temple at Odeelu in Padangady village. Sundar was riding the motor bike and traversing through Kinnigoli-Padangady road. Madhusudan was the pillion rider.
Sundar lost control while attempting to avoid collision with a vehicle which suddenly arrived from the opposite direction at a curve near the temple. Post this, the vehicle skidded, and both the youths fell into the pond situate.d near the roadside.
A man named Prabhakar Shetty who was coming to temple suddenly heard the cries of youth for help from inside the pool and saw those duos were drowning. The neighbouring residents too heard their cries. But, by the time they could extend help, the duo youths had drowned in the pond.
Locals, fire brigade personnel and police struggled till late night to retrieve their bodies.
Madhusudan was a second year MSc student of SDM Postgraduate College at Ujire.
