Intelligence officers seize gold biscuits concealed in the rectum of passenger at MIA.

Mangaluru, February 4: Gold biscuits worth Rs 16.33 lakhs that were concealed in the body of a passenger were seized by the intelligence officers of Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) Mangaluru on Tuesday February 3rd at Mangalore International Airport.

The passenger, is identified as Kanimkundil Mohammed Sameer of Udma, Kasargod district arrived at Mangalore International Airport by Air India flight AI 814 from Dubai.

As the intelligence officials had indicated that he had concealed gold biscuits inside his body/rectum, he was produced before the court to seek permission for screening his body to detect gold biscuits. He was screened by the authorities of Wenlock Hospital, which indicated concealment of metal pieces in his rectum.

Later, a detailed examination of his body was conducted during which five gold biscuits totally weighing 583 grams, valued about Rs 16,33,520 were recovered.

Investigation reveals that Sameer is a part of a smuggling gang operating between Kasargod in Kerala and Dubai. The customs department officials at Mangalore International Airport also assisted in this operation.

Further investigation is underway.
