Mangaluru, February 3: Due to food poisoning, twenty-two students of Morarji Desai residential school for minority girls in Deralakatte, outskirts of Mangaluru were admitted to a private hospital in Deralakatte on Monday February 2nd afternoon. In relation to this, five have been suspended who were undertaking the cooking works at this residential school.
Students namely, Azmiya, Nashiyat, Fauzia, Shahanaz, Qubra, Amina, Arifa, Kavya, Afrina, Tahira, Raksha, Nishmita K, Darshini, Ayesha, Sahira and several others health worsened, they are admitted to private hospital in Deralakatte for treatment.
After lunch in the afternoon, ten students suffered from stomach ache in the beginning. After some time, they began to vomit. Later many other students’ health worsened. Immediately the teachers informed the officer of the minority department.
As directed by the officer, the doctors of Yenepoya Hospital visited the school and admitted the students to the hospital after examining them. According to the doctors, food poisoning has caused the ill-health.
Warden changed, cooking staffs dismissed:
In the past, the students had expressed their unhappiness over the cooking staffs in the hostel and the cooking staffs were warned. Even then no changes were seen in the cooking staffs and complaints were received about this. The students have complained about them even today. The five cooking staffs who were working on contract basis have been dismissed after the complaints. Alternative arrangements have been made.
As the students expressed dissatisfaction over the warden, new warden has been appointed to the place, informed Sabir Ahmed Mullah, Deputy Commissioner of Minority Welfare Department.
Directions of UT Khader:
The Health Minister UT Khader, after learning about this incident have phoned from Bengaluru to the D K District health officer and the authorities of Minority Welfare Department and has directed them to visit the spot of incident and investigate on it.
