Kasargod, February 2: Due to alleged stone pelting on the vehicles which were plying back after the RSS Vijayshakti rally and meeting, tension prevailed in the area on Sunday night February 1st.
A group ran riot, damaging many vehicles, shops and houses from Povval to Bovikan by pelting stones in retaliation to the alleged stone-pelting.
Sources said that stones were pelted at a bus carrying RSS workers at Arikkady. Protesting over the incident, the road was blocked and traffic was still for several hours on Kasargod-Mangaluru national highway.
Tension prevailed at Kumble, Bovikan, Arikkady and Povval too. The police had to conduct lathi charge to bring the situation under control, informed the sources.
RSS convention:
The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) had organized a massive ‘Vijayshakti’ rally and convention at Kasargod Government College grounds on Sunday evening.
For the first time in Kasargod, the RSS had held such a rally during which more than 25,000 RSS workers had gathered for the meeting.
The meeting was presided over by Brigadier K N Rai from Mangaluru.
Major B A Nanjappa from Kodagu district, Gopalkrishna Bhat, K K Balram, Vaman Shenoy were present among others in the meeting.
