Iliyas Mohammed Thumbay, national core committee member of SDPI on addressing the gathering said, terrorism which is prevalent in our country has affected the development of our country.

He said, when we speak about terrorism, we think of only bomb blasts, but communal violence is also a sort of terrorism. When communal clashes break out, more number of people die. Out of all the terrorist acts, the worst one was assassination of Gandhiji on January 30th, 1948. Gandhiji always wished religious harmony but he was killed. So we have come up with the slogan ‘Speak for Gandhiji, condemn Godse’. SDPI does not allow destroying the democracy and secularism of the nation, he said.

He further lashed out at the RSS and said, The Babri Masjid demolition on December 6th, 1992 was another big terrorism that occurred in the nation. There were a lot of differences between Hindus and Muslims. 2002 Gujarat riots is another example. These riots have caused great trouble to the people.

He said, BJP MPs are giving ridiculous statements daily. MP Sakshi Maharaj says Hindus should have four children. They want to saffronize the text books. They want to build temple in the name of Godse. If the government gives permission to build it, we will destroy it. We are ready to go to jail. If Godse statue is installed in Mangaluru then we will destroy it.

Iliyas said further, BJP has introduced ‘Make in India’ and they are offering free electricity and water to foreign companies. But do they (BJP) know poor people don’t have water to drink or clothes to wear? They should first think about our own people.

M Koosappa, vice-president of SDPI, Puttur district said, in the name of religion, BJP is trying to divide the nation. Kalladka Prabakar Bhat says they are capable of forming government without votes of minorities. Then they might not even win even corporation election. The Muslims and Christians are accused of indulging in conversion, but the Dalits were not converted, instead, on their own accord they accepted their new religion.

Haneef Khan, state vice-president of SDPI said, SDPI has decided to observe Martyrs’ Day on January 30th every year. We will remind children of Gandhi’s assassination. Since Modi government is in power they might think they can make India a Hindu nation but that is not possible. Congress has forgotten Gandhiji. Gandhi was a  follower of non-violence but the followers of Godse want to create differences between the communities. We respect Hindu religion but there is a difference between Hindutva and Hindu religion which the Hindus have to understand.

During the protest, Nawaz Ullal, president SDPI, Riyaz Farangipete- district chief secretary SDPI, Kabir Bajal, Ayaz, corporator, Noorulla Kulai, Ashraf A K,  Mohammed U B, and were present among others.
