Mangaluru, January 28: Nirmiti Kendra, which had taken up the renovation work of the Town Hall here has stepped back stating that it is unable to do the work on technical grounds, hence the Mamnaglor City Corporation has decided not to hand over any other woks hereafter to the Nirtmiti Kendra and has also decided to write to the state government to cancel the Kendra’s recognition.
It was decided as above at the general meeting of the city corporation council held on Tuesday January 27th.
Premananda Shetty, leader of the opposition in the council, raised the topic of the delay in the renovation work of the Town Hall, and queried as to whether political considerations were behind this suspension of renovation work. Pointing that the deadline given to Nirmiti Kendra had already expired, he wanted information as to when the work will be completed.
Hephsiba Rani Korlapati, Commissioner of the city corporation, in response to the query, said that she had visited the spot within a week since taking over charge and inspected the work. She said steps will be taken to ensure that works commences again within a fortnight.
The corporators, were unsatisfied with the reply, and forced the mayor to indicate a clear date by which the work will be finished, the mayor said that work will not be finished before his term as mayor ends, expressing his helplessness.
After discussions, the mayor said that the Nirmiti Kendra has expressed inability to take up the second stage works citing it does not have technical experts, and the city corporation would write to the government to withdraw given recognition.
Mayor pointed out that the Kendra has been found to be capable of completing works worth Rs 20 crore in city corporation limits.
The meeting concluded with a decision to de-recognize the agency.
Deputy Mayor, Kavita Vasu, chairpersons of standing committees, and others were present during the meet.
