Beltangady, January 17: Clashes erupted by late evening on Friday January 16th at Karaya in Uppinangady, during which some persons suffered injuries and vehicles and property were damaged.
The exact reason behind the clashes is yet to be ascertained.
One group has alleged that stones were pelted from hillocks while they were returning from ‘Virat Hindu Hrudaya Sangama’ programme held in Puttur.
Enraged by this the group allegedly pelted stones at mosque in retaliation.
It is also alleged that a group after attending the Virat Hindu Hrudaya Sangama, pelted stones at a mosque, it is gathered.
During the clashes many were injured and many vehicles were also damaged. As the situation went worse, the cops who arrived at the spot had to face difficulty in controlling the mob. Additional police forces were deployed and lathi-charge was conducted.
It is reported that following the clashes, members of a community began stopping vehicles and pedestrians and attacked them with stones and sharp objects. The police force, which was less in number, began lathi-charge to control the clashes.
Some among the injured were admitted to Benaka hospital at Ujire. A family returning from another place was allegedly waylaid and attacked, it is gathered.
It is learnt that cops have brought the situation under control and rapid action force was brought to the spot.
