Suo-motto cases will be filed if labourers are forced for manual cleaning of septic tanks- Narayana

Mangaluru, January 03: Narayana, president of Karnataka State Safai Karmacharis Commission has informed that as directed by the court, the services of 35000 contact basis municipal workers across the state including Mangaluru City Corporation would be regularized within coming month.

After holding a meeting with officials of various departments at the DC office here on January 2nd, Friday, speaking to the reporters he said, the Commission has notice that only 12 municipal workers were carrying out the works of 35 municipal workers in Mulki, Bantwal, Puttur, Sullia, Belthangady and Moodbidri. He said, it has come to his notice that the contract workers were being cheated.

Narayana, has informed that the local administrative officials have been instructed to take appropriate actions within a fortnight to ensure that the municipal workers in the district working in local bodies who were appointed on contract basis are not deceived by the contactors concerned to the ESI and PF facilities.

He said, the workers were also alleged of cheating their ESI, and PF facilities, and added the local administrative officials have been asked to look into the matter within 15 days failing which legal action would be taken against the contractors and officials.

He also revealed that the police are directed to register suo moto complaints if there are suspicions that labourers are made to clean manholes and septic tanks manually.

Narayana expressed his sadness over the fact that the 16,000 crores of rupees is released by the state government for the betterment of the scheduled caste and scheduled tribes are not at all used for their betterment,  but are being benefited by the rich beneficiaries of the backward classes.

On this occasion, Deputy Commissioner A.B. Ibrahim, Tulasi Maddineni –Zilla Panchayat CEO, Hephsiba Rani Korlapati- MCC Commissioner, Gokuldas Nayak- MCC Joint Commissioner and others were present.
