Mangaluru, January 1: As part of the Karavali Utsav 2014-15 which is held in the Dakshina Kannada district; state level men’s and women’s fed light “Pro Kabaddi” tournament was organised on Wednesday, December 31st, at Nehru Maidan here.
District in-charge Minister Ramanatha Rai symbolically opened the hingara and inaugurated the program. After inaugurating the program he said, orders will be passed to form kabaddi and volleyball team from the Forest Department.
The international athletes namely M R Poovamma, Sahana Nagaraj, National athletes Udaya Chouta, Sukesh Hegde, Prashanth Rai were felicitated on this occasion.
Sports Minister Abhayachandra Jain after felicitating National and international level athletes addressed the gathering and said, “The state government is always committed to promote sports activities. The swimming pool which will be constructed at Emmekere ground will be made available to the athletes within three months. Preparations are on to set up an indoor stadium at a cost of 4.50 crores. On January 16th, National Inter-University sports competition will be organised, he said.
The ceremony was presided over by the Mayor Mahabala Maarla. MLC Ivan D’Souza, Deputy Commissioner AB Ibrahim, ZP secretary Umesh, MUDA Commissioner Mohammed Nasser, Acting Commissioner of MCC- Gokul Das Nayak, Information officer- Khader Shah, Moodbidri Urban Development Authority Chairman Suresh Kotian, DK District Amateur Kabaddi Association chairman Ratan Kumar Shetty, Secretary Purushottam Poojary, Giridhar Shetty- Taluk President, Congress leader B H Khader, Santhosh Kumar Shetty-sports committee member were present.
MR international sports, endurance rather, the rise of national sports Chowta, JDS leader Hegde, Prashant raiyavarannu felicitated on the occasion.
