Theft case of Milagres church- accused youth held, cash and cell phones seized.

Mangaluru, December 31: Pandeshwar cops have arrested a youth in relation to the theft which took place at Milagres Church in Mangaluru here few months ago.

The accused is Alex (29) alias Soorya, resides at Jayapriya Apartments in Magadi Road, Sunkadakatte, Bengaluru. It is also learnt that he is an inter-state thief.

The cops nabbed Alex near the second railway bridge in Mahakalipadpu in the city on Tuesday December 30th.  The cops have seized cash Rs 20,000, and two cell phones, valued Rs 19,875 from him.

On July 23- 2014, the accused had allegedly gained entry to Milagres church office by cutting open window rods. He then broke open the drawers of a table there, and took away cash of Rs 1,22,800, a gold chain worth Rs 25,000, and a Nokia cell phone worth Rs 22,000.

A complaint had been filed by Fr George Sunil D’Souza regarding this theft.

Police inspector of Pandeshwar station, Dinakar Shetty, who was on rounds observed that the youth began running after seeing the police vehicle near the second railway bridge at Mahakalipadpu. He asked the police personnel to chase him.

When the youth was caught and probed, he reportedly confessed to his crime.  The policemen recovered cell phones and a hacksaw blade from him. He has revealed that he had stolen cash and valuables from Milagres church some time ago.

It is also gathered thet Alex faces charges of theft at J P Nagar and Madiwala police stations in Bengaluru, and a case in Ernakulam Central police station in Kerala.

The team of cops which undertook this operation comprised inspector Dinakar Shetty, crime department police sub-inspector, Anant Murdeshwar and other cops.

The accused was produced before the court.
