Mangaluru, December 9: “The City police commissioner has issued orders to close all liquor shops between 6 pm and 6 am daily from Tuesday December 9th to 11th”, in order to avert untoward incidents from taking place in and outskirts of city.
In a press release, City Police Commissioner R Hitendra stated that the step has been taken with a view to maintain law and order in the city and restore peace among the public. The order holds good for all liquor shops in all areas coming under the limits of the City Commissionerate.
Deputy Commissioner A B Ibrahim has issued orders under section 21(1) of Karnataka Excise Act 1965, to stop the sale of liqour in all bars and restaurants and licensed wine shops throughout Mangaluru taluk, from December 9th to 11th, between 6 pm and 6 am.
All places selling liquor, including shops will remain closed during the specified hours. Dakshina Kannada district, Deputy Commissioner of exercise has been directed to strictly enforce the order and ensure that the bars would display the department’s seals on their doors during these hours, states the DC’s order.
Appropriate action would be taken against those who violate the order.
