Kasargod, December 5: A tanker transporting liquefied petroleum gas from Mangaluru to Kochi turned turtle on national highway at Kumble Shiriya at around 3 am on Friday December 5th.

As a result, Gas began to leak out from the tanker. Posing the danger posed by the leaking tanker, the entire area was alerted and traffic on national highway was halted and deviated later to other routes.

Fire engines from several places including Kasargod, Uppala, Trikkaripura, Kuttikol, Kanangad etc rushed to the spot and stood alert to handle the situation.

It is gathered that gas leakage has occurred from two sides of the tanker, and efforts are on to plug the leakage. Families living closer to the venue were evacuated to safer zones. Power supply to the area was cut off and the people were requested not to ignite fire till the situation is handled.

The traffic came to a halt which caused inconvenience to many bus commuters plying between Mangaluru and the town on a daily basis.

A recent report says that, the leakage is under control and the gas is being shifted to another tanker. By 2 pm, the entire process is expected to get over.
