Mangaluru, December 5: A mock drill was presented as part of the Chemical Disaster Eradication Day at Bahrath Petroleum Corporation at Baikampady industrial area on Thursday, December 4th in the LPG Bottling plant.
This drill was organized under the joint organization of Dakshina Kannada district administration, Disaster Management Authority and District Crisis Management Committee.
They had demonstrated fire disaster due to BLEW (Boiling Liquid Expanding Vapour Explosion) in a bottling plant bearing a storage capacity of 650 metric ton of LPG, thus causing leakage leading to fire disaster in the vicinity.
All the workers and locals in the vicinity upto 432 metres from the explosion area were moved to a safe zone. It was followed by a fire extinguishing operation. The fire brigades from mutual aid partners and fire tenders from the State Fire and Emergency Services arrived at the spot and began to subside the fire. Injured were taken to hospitals in the ambulances lent by MRPL, BASF, MCL, Sequent Scientific, Primary Industries, KIOCL, F, Cardo-light Specialty Chemicals and OMPL. The emergency control room of MCF was used as the offsite emergency local control room.
Ashok- Assistant Commissioner, CFO H Varadarajan and Dr Srinikethan- Disaster Management Cell Expert Member of the district were present among others.
