Mangaluru, December 2: A land slid was reported from the construction site of the new Padil-Bajal underbridge where a labour Mangal, was trapped under the heaps of soil and iron rods.

Mangal (22) native of West Bengal got trapped under the iron rods and soil, while another labourer, Ramdev, managed to escape. The incident occurred by late evening on Monday December 1st, trapping Mangal who is believed to have expired.

It is said that the workers were engaged in the task of tying wires around iron rods, when suddenly the land slid and collapsed on them.

It is predicted that frequent movement of trains in the area might have loosened the soil. On Monday, a train had passed just before the incident took place, and its vibrations are suspected to have caused the land slid.

Bharatkumar, who resides in the locality rushed to their rescue even before the fire service reached the spot. The locals also joined in the efforts to rescue Mangal.

Mangaluru rural cops and the fire service had arrived at the spot. The body was recovered after long hours of operation.
