12.83 lakhs Savings Bank Accounts opened under  Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY).

Mangaluru, November 25: Snehlatha Shrivastava, Additional Secretary, Department of Financial Services, Union Ministry of Finance addressing a mega camp organized by Corporation Bank here said, the citizens of the country have deposited Rs 6,000 crore under PMJDY.

 Speaking at the mega camp organised said the money deposited by the people is given by the bank for various works and business thus providing for development of the country.

She said that aim of the project is to ensure that every house hold has bank account. The funds deposited by citizens are given by the bank for various purposes which aids for developmental works of the country.

S R Bansal, Chairman and Managing Director of Corporation Bank, said that Corporation Bank has a major contribution towards PMJDY. The Bank has opened 12.83 lakh saving accounts mobilising Rs 211.03 crore in the accounts. The Bank is confident of reaching the target sooner than the stipulated schedule.

He said, Corporation Bank was allotted with 2294 villages grouped into 897 Sub Service Areas (SSAs) and 954 wards in urban areas to provide facilities to all the house-holds. The Bank has established banking facilities either by way of regular branch or through Bank Mitras for all the above said villages and wards.

Till date, the Corporation Bank has opened under PMJDY. Out of 12.83 lakh accounts 9.13 lakh account holders have been issued with ’Ru Pay’ Debit Cards. Nearly 53 % accounts have been seeded with Aadhaar numbers and Aadhaar seeding in the remaining accounts is being under taken wherever Aadhaar number is available, he informed.

He further said, in the district, the Bank was allotted 45 villages comprising 21 Sub Service Areas and 33 wards in urban areas under PMJDY. The Bank has completed survey in all SSAs and Wards. According to the survey, there were 28,255 house-holds in villages and 18,343 house-holds in urban wards. In all the 21 SSA’s banking infrastructure has been provided by opening brick and mortar branches in two SSAs and engaging fixed point Bank Mitras in the remaining 19 SSA’s. The Bank has opened the savings bank account for all house-holds, he said.
