Mangalore, October 28: Cops have arrested one more accused in the Smart City office blackmail case.
The accused is Naufal (20) from Kunjathabail.
As of now, four have been put behind bars. The other three arrested earlier are Iqbal (35), Hakim (24) and Isham (21). All are the residents of Kavoor Shanthinagar.
The entire arrested are believed to be the members of Azgar Aii’s group. Azgar Ali reportedly resides in Dubai.
Smart city office at Thokkottu was vandalized by the unknown persons on September 30th. It was learnt that two persons vandalised the office while the third person was waiting for them on a bike. After the act, all three had fled the scene.
It is revealed that Azgar Ali has been demanding Rs.2 crores as extortion money from the smart city builders. He phoned the electrical contractor Abdul Khadar on the same. It is said, Azgar made some calls stating that the consequences would be dire even after attacking the office.
The operation was carried under the guidance and direction of police commissioner R Hitendra and ACP Pawan, the team which led the operation included Inspectors Pramod Kumar Savithra Theja, Bharathi, Rajendra, head Constables Radhakrishna, Mohammed, Mohan and others.
