Mangalore, October 27: Mangalore City Corporation has placed an important proposal for the construction of an international cricket stadium and the Sports Complex at Mangalore, which may open a new chapter in the country’s sports history if it is implemented sooner.
Currently, to conduct huge sporting activities at Mangalore only two stadiums are available- either Mangala Stadium or Nehru Stadium. However, both have limitations. Other than athletics, other sports are not permitted at Mangala Stadium. Popular sports such as cricket do not have any proper stadiums here. This proposal is submitted to the state government by the MCC focusing to provide training to all the sports and conduct matches in the same side, considering the long pending demand of sports lovers. The MCC has placed a proposal before the state government which benefits the sportsmen.
Lands at Kenjaru and Thokur:
Mangalore City Corporation limits lack enough space for the construction of a sports complex hence the corporaton has indicated area in the outskirts of the city. If the greater Mangalore proposal is implemented, the present land which is proposed in the outskirts of the city is likely to come under the Corporation limits.
The Corporation has submitted a proposal to reserve the area for stadium and sports complex, and the state government is expected to take a decision said Mayor Mahabala Marla.
