Mangalore ,oct.15 : As part of the `CREST for Kashmir’ Initiative launched by CREST (Creating Resource to Empower Society Today), the youth wing of Centre for Integrated Learning, `CREST for Kashmir’ Cup 3 on 3 Basketball Tournament will be held at the Mangala Outdoor Basketball Stadium in the city from Thursday (October 16). The event is being organised by CREST in association with Mangalore Basketball Club.
The tournament will be organised in different categories – Boys, Girls, Men’s and Women’s Open. The tournament is being organised as a fund raiser to help the needy people of Kashmir which was devastated by the floods in September. The event will be inaugurated by Mayor of Mangalore City Corporation Mr. Mahabala Marla in presence of President of MBC Mr. Naveen Shetty. While the registration is on for the tournament, teams can also register on the spot on Thursday. The matches will be played in a league format and is open to all. While the prelims will be played on Thursday and Friday, the semi-finals and finals will be played on Saturday.
Various activities have been planned as part of the `CREST for Kashmir’ initiative which included old newspaper collection drive, resource mobilisation through door-to-door campaign among other activities. A Mall event will also be organised in the first week of November. The response to the initiative has been overwhelming and that we shall be utilising the resources mobilised to identify and rehabilitate a particular village in Kashmir, informed Arun Mallya, Coordinator of the initiative.
