Mangalore, October 10: Massive protest was organised in front of the Dakshina Kannada district commissioner’soffice by Jokatte Citizens protest Committee against the authoritarian tendencies of the MRPL Company, demanding the shut- down of its Sulphur and Coke plants.
It was trusted that the large companies would employ local prople. But we have lost our land to MRPL and left out only with tears. Providing jobs remained only as a hope. The life of Jokatte part of people is posed with anxiety since the company is engulfed in Coke and Sulphur production. The stench emanating from the unit, ash and waste water have put the lives of people into misery in the village sucha as Jokatte, Kenjaru, Maravuru, Kalavaru and Taukuru.
The people residing here are already suffering from various ailments such as giddiness, nausea, skin-related, and respiratory problems, complained the protesters. They urged the immediate closure of the plant. DYFI leaders Muneer Katipalla and others spoke during this protest.
The protestors comprising women, children, and the general public, participated in this massive protest and posed various flexes against the MRPL company.
