Moodbidri, October 08: Burglars sneaked into Shantinatha Basadi at Betkeri and fled with Silver pooja articles worth Rs 50,000 and cash currency notes from donation box on Monday night.
The Shanthinatha Basadi is adjacent to Ammanavara Basadi. The thieves gained entry by breaking open the door. Silver arti weighing 1kg, one plate and other plates used for sandalwood paste have been stolen.
The burglars have taken away currency notes form the donation box and left behind the coins. The theft came to light when priest Gunavarma Indra visited the Basadi to perform morning pooja.
The gold ornaments of Ammanavara Basadi have been kept in the bank locker. City Police Commissioner R Hitendra, Panambur ACP Ravi Kumar, Moodabidri circle inspector Anantha Padmanabha, S. Ramesh Kumar and crime branch team has visited the spot.
The dog squad and finger print experts have been brought to the spot.
