Kaup, September 24: The Kaup cops have taken four accused into custody alleged of assaulting the students who had visited Kaup beach along with a minor girl. They allegedly assaulted the boy and the girl on learning that they belonged to different religions.
The locals namely; Suman, Sudheer, Naveen and Hitesh have been arrested. The arrested have been produced before the court and they will be detained under the judicial custody till September 30th, said the police sources.
It is gathered that, following this incident of alleged assault, the accused circulated videos of the assault through the social media. Only after this news started to spread abruptly, father of one of the victims complained to the police.
Amidst this, another girl came to register a complaint against the youth from a Shirva college for allegedly misbehaving with her. Tumult arouse after a group protested at Kaup police station on charges that police took time to register her complaint. The complainant claimed that the said incident occurred during the Kaup beach assault.
The group demanded that the arrested youths should be released based on the complaint lodged by the girl, and that the boy be arrested instead. Former MLA Lalaji Mendon, VHP president Suprasad Shetty visited the police station and calmed the protestors.
Kaup cops have registered the case and further investigations are on.
