Verdict – Piku is Brilliant! Just go for it!
It’s not the heavy marketing that makes a movie hit, it’s the mouth to mouth publicity. That’s what’s going to happen in case of Piku. This film boasts of an amazing star cast but unlike other major films, Shoojit Sircar utilizes his star cast brilliantly.
Piku is a simple film with no unpredictable or unnecessary twists and turns. It’s a story of a relationship between a daughter & a father. They take a road trip where the driver cum owner of the taxi company is Irrfan Khan. The film focuses on their relationship & life’s philosophy. Piku is packed with genuinely good dialogues, even though it uses toilet humor, it’s not awkward or creepy during the entire run.
I can’t place any of the actors above another because Deepika Padukone, Amitabh Bachchan & Irrfan Khan have done their jobs pretty well. Deepika suits as a modern Bengali working woman, Amitabh Bachchan is an old man with modern thoughts of Feminism. Actually, in one of the road trip scenes, he defines the real meaning of Feminism. He is the only guy in the film who understands the meaning of life. We all want to be like Bhaskor Banerjee (Amitabh Bachchan) but we won’t be able to face those consequences like him.
Amitabh’s cynical character has a point in each argument. Irrfan Khan’s character is loveable & he again proves himself to be a versatile actor with this funny role. Other supporting characters keep up with the giants.
Direction is surreal & we all MUST bow down to Shoojit Sircar for creating Vicky Donor, Madras Café & now Piku. The man knows his story, his cast & his strengths. His message is clear & the deeper message is subtle.
Go for Piku & avoid other stupid flicks this week.
