Kundapur, October 15: Deadly attack took place on two dalit youths allegedly by a group that belonged to other community at Kandlur in the taluk on the night of Wednesday October 14th, while the two were returning after dinner at their friend’s house. Three persons have been arrested by police in connection to this incident.
The injured youths are Manjunath (28) and Vijaykumar(30), both residents of Balkuru. They have been admitted to a private hospital in Kundapur.
The arrested are identified as Sahid, Mohammed Nadeem, and Mohammed Saban. The other two accused Sadakath and Musheem have absconded.
The reason behind the attack is not known.

Manjunath and Vijaykumar, both residents of Balkur had been to their friends house in Janata Colony in Kandlur. After finishing their dinner, they were on their way back home on a bike. Meanwhile, at around 10.30pm, a group of over ten members stopped their bike, pulled the youths down, abused them, beat them up and attacked on the duos using deadly weapons.
The injured youths say that the attackers had scolded them over the matter of celebrating Sharadotsav in Kandlur and also regarding the erection of banners. The attackers also threatened the youths of their life. The attackers fled from the spot before the friends of injured Manjunath and Vijaykumar could rush to the spot hearing their cry for help.
Meanwhile the police arrived at the spot and gathered information from the injured and arrested three among the attackers. The police are on a look out for other accused.
Vijaykumar is a local driver while Manjunath was employed in abroad and had arrived to his home town two weeks ago.
Manjunath is critically injured and is being treated in a hospital in Kundapur.
Kundapur police have filed a case on the charges of murder and dalith atrocity and investigations are on.
Tight police security has been deployed at the spot to avoid untoward incidents from taking place.
MP Shobha Karandlaje condemns assault
Udupi MP Shobha Karandlaje visited the injured at the hospital and gathered information on Thursday October 15th.
Speaking to reporters, she condemned this incident and said that assaults on youths belonging to pro-Hindu organizations are occurring repeatedly. The assault on innocent youths is condemnable. The police should arrest all the accused immediately, she said.
