Kasargod, October 13: A man from Mangaluru has been arrested by the police for allegedly raping a 16-year-old dumb girl after tying her up.
The accused is identified as Suresh (38), a resident of Sharadanagar in Uppala.
The incident is said to have taken place on September 22nd, but was reported late. A complaint was lodged at Manjeshwar police station but it is alleged that the police were reluctant to register the case. The case was handed over to the crime branch after the matter was brought to the attention of the superintendent of police.
The complaint states that on September 22nd, when the minor girl was alone at home, the accused went to the house and asked for water. When the girl went inside to get water, he followed her, tied her up and raped her. Then she went to the neighbours and narrated the incident by using sign language. The neighbours rushed her to the hospital and got her examined there. It is said that though they complained about it to Manjeshwar police, they did not accept the complaint. The police did not come forward to subject her to medical tests either, it is said.
A complaint was lodged at the women’s police station three days after the incident took place. The police who gathered information from the girl, got her medical examination done at a Kasargod hospital and registered a rape case.
It is gathered that attempts were made to close the case but a local teacher and her husband made a sincere attempt to bring the incident to light. The girl’s father is mentally ill and her mother and two brothers are also dumb. The mother sells fish to earn their bread.
