The word Namaste originates from ancient Sanskrit, and is an especially deep form of respect. To perform Namaste, place your hands together at your heart, close your eyes and bow your head.
You also can perform Namaste by placing your hands together in front of your third eye (in the middle of your forehead), bowing your head and then bringing your hands down to your heart. Whereas in the West, we usually speak the word “Namaste” in conjunction with the gesture.
In India, it is understood that the gesture itself signifies Namaste, therefore, it is unnecessary to say the word while bowing.
