HYDERABAD: Suspecting his wife’s fidelity, a Dubai-based non-resident Indian (NRI) went on a stabbing spree at Ali Nagar in Shaheen Nagar in the early hours of Thursday, killing his brother-in-law and mother-in-law on the spot. Later, he turned his ire on his wife, who tried to flee from the spot, but he chased her on the road and stabbed her repeatedly. Though she survived the attack, she is battling for life at Osmania Hospital and her condition is said to be critical.

Around 6 am on Thursday, Mohammed Abrar Ahmed, who returned from Dubai recently, went to the Ali Nagar residence of his wife Shaheen’s parents. As soon as his brother-in-law Fahimuddin, 24, opened the door, he launched an attack and stabbed him to death. Hearing the commotion, Shaheen’s mother Nasreen, 57, rushed to the spot only to have Ahmed launch an assault on her with a sharp-edged weapon. She suffered multiple stab injuries. “Both Fahimuddin and Nasreen died on the spot,” Pahadishareef inspector K Giri Kumar said.

Ahmed then scoured the house for Shaheen and found her in an adjoining room. As he began attacking her, she freed herself from his clutches and escaped out of the house. But Ahmed chased Shaheen down the road and stabbed her repeatedly. He stopped only when locals overpowered him and handed him over to the police.

“Shaheen suffered several stab injuries and is undergoing treatment at Osmania Hospital. Her condition is reportedly serious,” the inspector added.

According to the police, Shaheen Begum and Ahmed had got married 15 years ago and have two children, a son and a daughter. Since the past five years, Ahmed had been working in Dubai while Shaheen and the children were staying at her parents’ residence at Ali Nagar.

Sources said, Ahmed came to the city three days ago and was staying with an acquaintance at Shamshabad. They claimed that he suspected his wife’s character, which could be the motive for the murderous attack. Police have registered a case under section 302 (Murder) and 307 (Attempt to murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) against Ahmed
