Hubli: Two women were allegedly kidnapped and raped by a group of six men near Rayanal village on the outskirts of the city on Monday night.

According to a complaint filed by the relatives of the victims, both the women were kidnapped from Station Road and gang-raped near Rayanal.

Police said Zahir of Ayodhya Nagar, the main suspect, and five others raped a 26-year-old woman of Tipu Nagar and a 24-year-old girl from Banatikatta who are said to be working in a garment firm at Marathagalli in Hubli.

Zahir allegedly asked the women to meet him at Station Road on Monday night. When they arrived, three other men joined him and threatened the women at knifepoint saying their video clippings would be made public, the police said.

The two women were then kidnapped on two bikes and raped by four men. Later, two more joined the group at Rayanal.

On Tuesday, the victims were admitted to the Karnataka Institute of Medical Sciences for a medical test and treatment.

A case has been registered with the Old Hubli Police Station. The police have taken Zahir into custody and are on the lookout for the other five suspects.
