Even as sleuths from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on Tuesday conducted a spot inspection of the office of Police Commissioner Raghavendra H. Auradkar in connection with the atrocity case filed against him,IPS officer Ravindranath took objection to another IPS officer addressing him as a “Dalit”.
Dr. Ravindranath, who had been to the office of the Director-General of Police (DGP) after the spot inspection, said that the senior IPS officer addressed him as a “Dalit” when he requested him for a meeting with the Chief Minister.
He met Public Works Minister H.C. Mahadevappa and Social Welfare Minister H. Anjaneya, who reportedly persuaded him to withdraw his resignation. After meeting the two Ministers, Dr. Ravindranath said that he had indeed wanted to heed their advice and withdraw his resignation. “But after being ill-treated at every level in the government over my caste, I am pained and I don’t want to continue in service. I will not withdraw my resignation,” he said.
Earlier, Dr. Ravindranath was present on the Police Commissioner’s office premises when the CID sleuths conducted a spot inspection. Dr. Ravindranath had, in his complaint, alleged that Mr. Auradkar treated him like an untouchable and cried out “Don’t touch me” when he tried to hold his hand on the day he had been to the Commissioner’s office to request Mr. Auradkar to arrest him in the case relating to taking photographs of a woman at a coffee shop.
During their visit to the Commissioner’s office, CID officials tried to reconstruct the sequence of events on the fateful day and questioned some of the officials there.
Meanwhile, CID officials have sent the mobile phone that Dr. Ravindranath allegedly used to take the photographs of a woman in the coffee shop for forensic examination to the Central Forensics Science Laboratory in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. Home Minister K.J. George said that the State government had forwarded the officer’s resignation to the Union government. He said that Dr. Ravindranath had 90 days from the day of submission of his resignation to withdraw it.
